Shisha emerged in India around the 16ᵗʰ century and quickly travelled west through Persia and into the Ottoman Empire. What began as a coconut‑shell water pipe evolved into the elegant glass‑and‑metal vessels we know today, becoming a social staple from Cairo to Istanbul before spreading worldwide.
